Everyday requirements

care with confidence

The daily curriculum at Little Diggers has been designed around play based exploration; experimentation and learning through developmentally appropriate interactions, environments & activities and it’s all tailored to your child’s specific needs. So that your child is best prepared for the variety of activities we engage with every day, please become familiar with our 'everyday requirements' so your child has the most comfortable day possible with the right 'gear'.

Indoors and outdoors - we make the most of our lovely centre grounds and imagination. Kids absolutely love playing with water, as they do with paints, artwork and more. Comfortable clothing is really important, and a change of clothes for those 'in case' moments lets the children explore, develop and play.

Clothing

Part of every day is spent participating in a variety of art and play activities, both indoors and outdoors. Children should wear washable, comfortable fitting clothing appropriate for the weather. While paints, etc will come out in the wash, accidents do happen so it is best to send the children along in their “less than good clothes”. Young children enjoy and need “messy” play with paint, clay, sand, water and mud.

We ask that you pack the following for your child everyday they join us at Little Diggers:

■ For babies and toddlers: Please ensure that babies and toddlers have about three complete changes of clothing and plenty of training pants.

■ For other children: Pack a spare pair of clothing, and especially underpants as 'accidents' are simply a part of growing up.

■ Please do not dress your child in clothing with cords e.g. shorts, hats etc. As these have the potential to become caught on equipment and may cause serious harm to your child.

Please label all of your child’s clothing, including boots, shoes, hats, etc. It is easy to get children’s clothing mixed up. Lost property is placed in a box in each room. After a reasonable amount of time, any unclaimed clothing is donated to charity, hence the need to label everything. Please do not bring toys from home.

Each child is allocated a hook (a storage bucket in the Sweetpea room). Please hang bags, coats, etc on your child's hook or place it in their bucket.

The Centre has a limited supply of extra clothing, and if your child takes daycare clothes home, we kindly ask you to please wash the clothes and bring them back promptly.

Sun Screen / Sun Safe

Our Service’s policy is “no hat, no play”. This policy will be enforced. Parents are asked to provide a wide brim hat to wear during outside activities. These must be named. The most suitable hat is one, which shades the ears and neck, as research is showing a high incidence of skin cancer on people’s ears.

Upon arrival to kindy, please apply sunscreen to your child. The stamp on the sign in bench is an indication to staff that your child has their sunscreen applied for the morning. Sunscreen is provided by the centre and is regularly applied throughout the day. We use SPF 30+ on all exposed areas of skin. Hats are worn during outdoor play.

Delivery & Collection of Children

Please allow plenty of time and use extreme care when bringing your child to kindy. We endeavour to help each child feel safe and secure at the centre. All children are to be brought to the centre, and collected from the centre, by a responsible adult. Contact must be made with a staff member by this adult before leaving or taking your child. If possible, with your child's main carer. Attendance sheets must be signed detailing the arrival and departure of your child. No child will be permitted to leave the centre unless the adult collecting them has been nominated by the parent.

Staff become familiar with parents and those authorised to pick up their children rather quickly. In the interest of safety, please ensure that those authorised to pick up your child bring photo identification until staff become familiar with them. Our intent is not to offend anyone but to ensure the safety of your child.

■ Signatures and times are important; if no signatures or times are entered it may be deducted from your tax return at the end of the financial year, at full fees.

■ Late Collection of Children: a fee of $50.00 for the first 15 minutes or part there of plus $2.00 per minute after that for children who are not picked up before 6.00 pm.

Medication

Educators will be able to administer prescribed medication to children.  A medication form MUST be completed and signed by parents before any medication will be given. All prescription medication must be prescribed for your child and not another family member - unless stated otherwise by a doctor's certificate. Medication must be in date and in its original packaging.

The medication must be handed to an Educator to store in a locked container in fridge. Please DO NOT leave medication in your child's bag. The Educator who gives medication requires a medication form to be completed by the parent, e.g. tablets, mixture, creams.

Any child who has commenced an antibiotic must not attend the Service for 24 hours from commencement.

ASTHMA

The Service aims to provide a safe environment for children who have asthma. It is Service policy that an "Asthma Record Plan" be completed by parents/guardians in consultation with the family doctor. It is also a requirement that the record plan be reviewed by your family doctor annually or as circumstances change. This must be completed and returned before enrolment commences.
